RAMAYAN AT STAR PLUS EPISODE 1 DATED 4 MAY 2020 WRITTEN UPDATES:- Ramayan after having a Dream run at DD National During lock down is now getting showcassed at Star Pus. Ramayan is an Indian television mythological series, which aired between 1987 and 1988 on DD National, created, written, and directed by Ramanand Sagar. It is a television adaptation of the ancient Indian Hindu epic of the same name, and is primarily based on Valmiki’s Ramayan and Tulsidas’ Ramcharitmanas.


The First Episode of Ramayan starts with all the Gods including Lord Brahma worshipping Bhagwan Vishnu who is in Samdhi Nidra. They are worried lot because of Ravan. They plead to Lord Vishnu to relieve them from Ravan.

Arun Govil as Ram / Vishnu

Arun Govil has been a part of the industry since 1977. He has been in the industry as an actor, producer, and director. He has been a part of Hindi, Bhojpuri and Telugu films. The actor is best known for playing Lord Rama in Ramayan. 

 He won the Upton Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 1988 for his role as Lord Ram in Ramayan.

Deepika Chikhalia as Sita/Lakshmi

Deepika made her debut as lead actor in Sun Meri Laila in 1983. The actor portrayed the role of Devi Sita in the show Ramayan. Deepika received major recognition after she was a part of the Ramayan serial cast.

Sunil Lahri as Lakshman

Sunil Lahri made his acting debut with the movie Naksalwadi. The actor portrayed the role of Lord Lakshman in Ramayan. He was widely appreciated and gained major recognition after being a part of the Ramayan cast.

Dara Singh as Hanuman

Dara Singh was an Indian professional wrestler, actor, and politician. He started acting in 1952 and was the first sportsman to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha (upper house) of India. The actor portrayed the role of Lord Hanuman in the television series Ramayan. The actor was a part of various Bollywood films and known to be one of the iconic actors in Bollywood.

Arvind Trivedi as Ravana / Sage Vishrava

Arvind Trivedi was born on 8 November 1938 in Indore (now in Madhya Pradesh) to Jethalal Trivedi. He studied to Intermediate level at Bhavan’s College in Bombay (now Mumbai). He married Nalini on 4 June 1966. They had three daughters.

 His brother Upendra Trivedi was also prolific Gujarati film actor.

He is most famous for portraying Ravan in Ramanand Sagar’s television series Ramayan.

 He acted in other TV series like Vikram Aur Betaal and others. The film Desh Re Joya Dada Pardesh Joya, in which acted Dadaji (grandfather), broke many box office records and he is still remembered for the role.

What are Cast of Ramayana doing Now-a-Days?

The main members of the cast of Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan—Arun Govil, Deepika Chikhalia, Sunil Lahri and Dara Singh, who played Ram, Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman, respectively—were treated as living Gods for years after the show ended.

After Ramayan, Arun Govil continued playing Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Lav Kush, then played more legendary characters, from the Ikshvaku king Raja Harishchandra to Gautam Buddha. In 1992, he also lent his voice, as Ram, to the Indo-Japanese animation film, Ramayan: The Legend of Prince Rama.

Deepika Chikhalia reprised her role as Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s Lav Kush. Chikhalia also won an election as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Baroda in 1991 and served as a member of the 10th Lok Sabha.

She made her comeback to films in 2018, and most recently played actor Yami Gautam’s mother in Bala (2019).

Sunil Lahiri, Popular for playing Lakshmana in Ramayan, the actor continued to do films and work in television after the serial ended. He is now best remembered for his role in 1991 musical Baharon Ke Manzil and for playing 2nd Lieutenant Rama Raghoba Rane in 1990 TV series Param Vir Chakra. He was last seen in 2017 film, A Daughter’s Tale Pankh. He had reportedly begun a production company with Arun Govil.

Arvind Trivedi has had a prolific career in the Gujarati cinema for over 40 years. He is now 81 years old.
